New York, NY, November 1, 2022. The Latino Commission on AIDS and the Hispanic Health Network mourn the passing of Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts III, a leader who fought tirelessly for social justice. His work and legacy will continue to inspire leaders to follow his example of inclusion and fairness. In addition, he will be remembered for his advocacy for the community’s well-being, extending to areas ranging from health, education, and housing to economic justice.

His leadership on the board of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, now the National Black Leadership Commission on Health (NBLCH), promoted health education and advocacy in favor of those affected by HIV and AIDS and those at risk. Furthermore, he provided spaces for the promotion of HIV prevention in all communities of color. We will remember Reverend Butts III as an exemplary leader and honor his memory by continuing to work for social justice in our communities.
